The short version
We use your photos only to make your preview and check its quality. We keep small copies of your photos and previews for 14 days, then delete them. We never sell them, never use them to train AI, and never use them in marketing. If you ask us to email your preview, we keep it and your email for 30 days, to send you the link and up to two offers on those portraits, the same day and the next.
Who we are
Bowwies (bowwies.com) makes AI portraits of people and their pets. For anything about your data, email help@bowwies.com.
When you make a preview
Before upload, your browser removes location data from your photos. Your photos are then sent to our AI provider, fal.ai, and the AI models it runs for us, which process them only to check them and make your preview. Your selfie is sent as soon as you add it, before you tap the button, so we can check it while you pick the rest; that check saves nothing. When your preview starts, we save small, lower-quality copies of your two photos, and of your watermarked previews once they’re made, in a private area only the Bowwies team can open (stored with our hosting providers, Vercel and Upstash). We use them only to check the quality of what the AI made, and they’re deleted automatically after 14 days. Want yours deleted sooner? Email help@bowwies.com.
Counting free previews
To keep previews free and fair, we count how many each person makes a day using a scrambled code made from your IP address. We never store the IP address itself, and we delete these counts after two days.
Your preview
Your previews are shown to you on the page. Your browser keeps your latest ones for 48 hours, so a refresh doesn’t lose them. Apart from the small copies we keep for 14 days to check quality, we don’t save them on our side, unless you ask us to email them to you or you start checkout to buy one.
If you give us your email
We ask for it so we can email you a private link to your watermarked previews, sent through our email provider, Resend, and to find your preview if you get in touch: we keep it with the small copies of your photos for 14 days. We keep your email and those previews for the link for 30 days, then delete them. Apart from up to two offers on your own portraits, each with an unsubscribe link, we don’t send marketing emails, and we never sell your email.
When you buy
Payments are handled by Stripe, which sells to you on our behalf (it is the seller of record), works out any sales tax or VAT and sends your receipt. We never see your card details. When you start checkout, we save the full-size portraits you picked, so we can deliver them. If you don’t finish paying, we delete them. Once you’ve paid, we email you a private link to them and keep them so you can download them again. Stripe keeps your payment details and receipt.
Ads and measurement
We use the Meta Pixel and Meta’s Conversions API to see which of our Facebook and Instagram ads work. They tell Meta when someone visits a page, gets a preview, starts checkout or buys, with Meta’s cookie IDs, your browser type and IP address, the price, and for purchases a scrambled (hashed) copy of your email. If you said no on our cookie banner, we send Meta nothing. We never send Meta your photos, your portraits or your private links. Meta’s own privacy policy covers what it receives.
Site analytics
We use Google Analytics and PostHog to see how people use the site, so we can make it better. They see the pages you visit, what you tap, how far you get in making a preview and checking out, your browser and device, and your IP address and rough location. PostHog may also record a replay of your visit, with your photos, your previews and anything you type hidden. Both set their own cookies to tell visits apart. When you buy, we tell them the price and the looks you picked. If you said no on our cookie banner, they don’t run. We never send them your photos, your portraits, your email or your private links. Google’s and PostHog’s own privacy policies cover what they receive.
Who else handles your data
Only the services that run Bowwies for us: fal.ai (the AI, including a quick photo check), Vercel and Upstash (hosting and storage), Resend (email), Stripe (payments), and Meta, Google and PostHog (measurement, if allowed). Most are based in the United States, so your data may be handled there, under their own safeguards.
Why we use your data
To make and deliver what you ask for (your preview, your email link, your order), to keep the service safe and fair, to check the quality of our results, and, with your OK where the law needs it, to measure our ads and improve the site.
How long we keep it
Photo and preview copies for quality checks: 14 days. Emailed preview links: 30 days. Free-preview counts: 2 days. Paid portraits and order records: kept so you can download them again, and as long as the law needs for our records. Stripe keeps payment records under its own rules.
Your rights
You can ask us for a copy of your data, to correct it, or to delete it, and you can object to how we use it. Email help@bowwies.com and we’ll reply within 30 days. If you’re in the UK or the EU you can also complain to your data protection authority (in the UK, the ICO). We don’t sell your personal data.
What we never do
We never sell your photos. We never use them to train AI, in ads, on our website or in any marketing. You don’t need an account or a card to make a preview.
Children
Bowwies is for adults (18 and over). Please don’t upload photos where a child is the main subject.
Photo rules
To keep Bowwies safe, we may block photos that break our photo rules. See our Terms for the full rules.
Changes
If we change this policy, we’ll update it here with a new date.
